Constructed of bronzed magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a map of Crimea and southern Ukraine, topped by a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, flanked by dates '1941-1942', affixed with four side prongs to a magnetic metal backplate with a field-grey wool liner, unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of a variant attributed to Rudolf Souval, Vienna,a late war shield mostly encountered with a backplate and no cloth
