Japanese Navy Officer Type 97 Kai Gunto Sword

The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 39 inches, with a blade length of approximately 24-1/2 inches. The blade shows some gray mossy spots, scratches and exhibits age and use, but it is without nicks, chips, or active rust. The blade displays a visible and distinct temper line. The tang has three mounting holes, and the tang is unsigned. The grip is covered in dark sharkskin, and it is wrapped in the traditional fashion with golden brown fabric. Beneath the fabric on each side of the grip are the standard military menuki of three gilt cherry blossoms. The tsuba guard is the solid variety with four relief cherry blossoms. The wooden scabbard retains all mounts, with intact gilt finish. Overall the sword is in excellent condition.
