Description

German Model 1918 Helmet Reissued for WWII German Army-This is a reissue example that was originally produced for use during WWI then subsequently refitted with a WWII style liner, field grey paint and Third Reich style decals. In this case, it is for the army and has both the army style decal and a tri color shield. The field grey finish is 70% intact. The army decal is 70% as well. The tri color shield is worn and someone touched up the decal with black, white and red paint. As mentioned, this has the Model 1931 newer liner system. It is very dark, having been treated by a GI after the war. This kept it extremely soft and supple but it does have that dark appearance. It is a size 60 and has a drawstring plus a non reinforced aluminum liner band that is from the first year of production, 1931. The liner is embossed with the maker as well as the size of the shell, 68 and the size of the liner, 60. The liner band is also maker marked and size stamped 68. There is a number hand painted in the rear, 59 which was probably a rack number. The side of the interior is stamped TJ 68 indicating production by C. Thiel and Sons of Lubeck in the size of 68. The chinstrap is a post war replacement. A great item!
