Description
The jacket was tailored into an 'Ike' jacket from a four pocket Model 1940 tunic. The Ike jacket carries 'U.S.' and Army Air Force clutch back collar disks. Both sleeves bear the rank chevrons of a Technical Sergeant. The lower left sleeve has four overseas service chevrons and two enlistment chevrons. The left shoulder shows an Army Air Force patch and a China Burma India Theater patch is present on the right shoulder. On the upper left breast is a three place clutch back ribbon bar with the ribbons for the American Defense Medal; the American Campaign Medal; and the Pacific Theater Medal. Above the ribbon bar is a full size, clutch back, Navigator wing, in sterling silver. The interior of the jacket has the stenciled name of the owner, 'Hayward, M.W.', and his service number of '17025395'. This was 'Maurice W. Hayward, Jr.', from Goodhue, Minnesota. He was born in 1918 and he enlisted on March 26, 1941. On the upper right breast is the 'Ruptured Duck' honorable discharge insignia above a Presidential Unit Citation ribbon. The jacket is lacking a snap closure at the end of the waist belt, but otherwise the jacket is very clean and in excellent condition.
