He enlisted in to the Northumberland & Durham Yeomanry in Newcastle 14-2-1901 & served in South Africa as a Bugler from 15-3-1901 to 8-9-1902. He returned to England 9-9-1902 & took his discharge 15-9-1902. At this stage his next of kin was his mother who was living at 114 South Eldon Street in South Shields.NEF & Complete with copy service papers
