Description
The well worn tunic was tailored in a high quality field gray wool blend material by a Potsdam military tailor. The upper right breast displays a bullion Army eagle, while the collar bears the tabs of a cavalry officer. The shoulders display the rank boars of a Hauptmann of the 15th Cavalry Regiment. The interior pocket retains the tailor label, dated in 1940 and named to 'Wachtm(eister) Cadenbach', reflecting that, over the course of the war, the owner of the tunic rose from the rank of a senior non-commissioned officer to the rank of Captain. The interior collar bears the woven label of the same Potsdam tailor, which is rather tattered from wear. On the lower left breast are decorations which include the War Merit Cross First Class with Swords. The cross is a zinc alloy screw back example, marked 'L/58', reflecting production by the firm of Glaser & Sohn of Dresden. Beneath the decoration are loops for the wear of a pin back badge. Also on the tunic is a 1939 black Wound Badge, in excellent condition, affixed to two thread loops. The tunic also has a bronze SA Sports Badge, maker marked by Sieper & Sohne, and also affixed to two thread loops. The tunic was clearly worn in the field of operations, with the tunic having surface soiling and a few small holes, as well as age toning of the collar tabs and shoulder boards. Additionally, the undersides of the forearms on each sleeve have very well tailored heart shaped patches in matching field gray material. The tunic shows operational wear and use, but it exhibits great character and it makes an overall very good appearance.
