Description
German WWII Regimental Trumpet Banner for the Town of Butzbach, Germany-This ornate and well preserved banner has a Heer style eagle on one side that is partially embroidered with a heavy silver material for the body of the eagle that is placed onto a black shield in the style of a helmet decal. This is all applied to a red background. The red field has some discoloration. On the lower corner there is a crudely hand stitched 1942 b 8. What the B 8 means we are unsure. Perhaps a battalion number? Next to that there is a plastic red disc sewn in place. Also unsure what this is for.Perhaps a quality control indication? The other side has a wonderful coat of arms for Butzbach and a stylized rendition of the Schloss Kaserne (castle barracks) or is original nameLandgräfliches Schlossthat is partially embroidered with the same heavy silver material for the buildings as the eagle does. This is all applied to a white background that has some staining and discoloration. On top of white field there is one 3' area of fraying.Around the entire boarder is wire fringe that is in good overall shape. There are 4 brown leather suspension loops on the top that all retain the securing snaps. This would have likely been a locally handmade banner for parade use.The Schloss Kaserne became a US Army barracks thus indicating this was possibly found by a GI and sent home as a souvenir.Ready for additional research! Spectacular banner not to be missed!
