Description
Cased Kriegsmarine Blockade Runner Badge (Blockadebrecher-Kriegsabzeichen). The Blockade Runner Badge was instituted by Adolf Hitler on 1 April 1941 for award to Naval personnel and Merchant marines who met specific criteria, the most important being returning a ship to Germanyafterbreaking throughanenemyblockade. The badge is executed in 'Zink'. The zinc type badge is in overall good condition. The pin & catch are of course complete and functional. The badge is nicely maker marked with 'Fec. Otto Placzek Berlin, Ausf. Schwerin-Berlin'. The badge comes with its original larger style tombak miniature, both nicely stored in an original period blue case. The interiour of the matching later war type case is slightly damaged, see photos. The case is showing normal traces of usage. The set comes together with a nice 1957 type miniature medal chain from the same sailor as found together in a house cleaning in Germany recently. The miniature chain is consisting of an Iron Cross 1st Class, Iron Cross 2nd Class, Naval Front Clasp, Minesweeper War Badge, Blockade Runner Badge and War Merit Cross 2nd Class. Nice original set in good condition!
