A scarce original Second World War period 'Thornycroft 1939 home front brass lapel badge'; white enamel title circlet 'FAIRFIELD 1939', the centre depicting the companies white shield anchor logo on blue enamel ground; the reverse impressed with maker's details 'Thomas Fattorini Ltd Regent St. Birmingham' and impressed with official identification low issue number '381'. Very good condition, complete original buttonhole fitting, no damage to the enamel, minor service wear. Diameter approx 25mm.The Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company was a Scottish shipbuilding works in the Govan area on the Clyde in Glasgow and was a major warship builder for the Royal Navy.
