Description

You are bidding on a VERY NICE used example of a WW2 German Kriegsmarine Issue ZENTRA Service Wrist Watch!Zentra (usually styled ZentRA or ZentRa) is a German watch brand dating to 1927.The watch co-op Markenuhren-Verein or Markenuhr GmbH ('Watch Brand Company') was founded in 1924 by Willi KΓΆnig and Willibald Felsing of the Zentralverband der Deutschen Uhrmacher ('Central Association of German Watchmaking'). The company soon began using the name Centra or Zentra (a shortened form of 'central') on watches and founded the ZentRa brand on September 4, 1927 in Berlin. The company focused on building the brand throughout Germany and soon 'ZentRa' watch stores were widespread. As was typical at the time, Zentra watches were built from various components Most cases came from Germany, while movements were German (PUW) or Swiss (A. Schild and Minerva). The company advertised using the slogans, 'die Uhr mit dem Reifezeugnis' ('the watch with a certificate of maturity') and 'die treue GefΓ€hrtin' ('the faithful companion'), emphasizing reliability. The main competitor for Zentra at this time was Dugena, another popular and widespread German watch brand.Produced for the German military, all issued wristwatches were required to follow a specific standard, this being: case made of achromium plated brass; a manual winding movement; water resistant; dust/moisture proof; and are a total of 15 jewels.A secondary hand is to be located at the 6 o'clock position indicating seconds, and both main hands are to be luminous.Made of a chrome-plated brass case, this German/Swiss-made Zentra watch is in EXCELLENT functioning condition. The dial is in near MINT condition, with NO damage or corrosion! The manufacture name is clearly marked on the face, as was manufactured between 1939 and 1945.Also features a prominent, 'KM' indicating it was Kriegsmarine Issued timepiece.Being in used condition, the case doesshow some signs of wear (scratches, marks, patina), but it is in otherwise VERY NICE condition for its age. The strap is a period replacement, which also shows wear and staining. I had it running for almost 24 hours on a full wind. For reference, the other codes produced were:DH:Dienstuhr HeerD:Dienstuhr LuftwaffeDRGM:Deutsches Reich GebrauchsmusterRLM:ReichsluftfahrtministeriumKM:KriegsmarineDU:Dienstuhr (Verwaltung)A VERY nice and original item for any collection, or display!
