You are bidding on a VERY NICE and 100% ORIGINAL set of WW2 German'Sumpftarnmuster 43' (Tan & Water) CamouflagePattern Winter Trigger Mittens!Produced in 1943 this was issued to both Heer and Elite troops between 1943 and 1945.After the first devastating winter of 1941-1942 on the Russian front, the German army found that it was drastically under equipped with cold weather garments. As such, a wide variety of improvised garments including a broad assortment of donated civilian garments were utilized as a temporary solution. In the spring of 1942, the Wehrmacht, began testing heavier winter clothing to develop suitable garments for the Russian front. In April 1942, the first models were issued in the autumn of that year, in the reversible blue/mouse grey/white colorations, which was modified to camouflage pattern/white combinations in 1943. Included with these new garments were heavy, padded, reversible winter suits which consisted of a parka, pants, mittens and hoods.This Sumpftarnmuster 43 design was introduced around mid-1943 for use by Heer and Waffen-SS ground forces, featuring soft brown and green blotches over a tan background with characteristic vertical 'rain' streaks, offering effective concealment in mixed woodland and marsh terrain. The reverse side is white for winter use.Made of water-proofed cotton/rayon, these reversible trigger mittens are in NICE used condition! They feature the standard Sumpftarnmuster 43 pattern camouflage, consisting of shades of greens, tans, and browns. They are reversible to white. Though they have loops for a tie string, the connecting string is missing. As they were used in combat, there is some obvious wear and marks throughout. Internal markings have worn away over time. Medium in size, they would make a SUPERB addition to any collection or display!
