Description
Attractive and original World War I Prussian Model 1915 Jäger zu Pferde enlisted ranks Pickelhaube, constructed with a blued steel 'lobster tail' body, as prescribed for mounted Jäger units. The helmet is fitted with the correct field-grey enlisted ranks helmet plate, centrally mounted, and retains its M1915 pattern removable grey metal spike with cross base, allowing conversion for field service. The original leather enlisted ranks chinstrap is present, accompanied by the correct later small pattern Prussian state and Reich cockades. To the rear, the helmet features the characteristic lobster tail neck guard, secured with flat, regulation rivets. The underside of the front peak shows its original green painted finish, while the underside of the rear peak retains the correct blackened finish, both strong indicators of originality. The interior is complete with its original leather liner, and the helmet bears a clear maker's plate to the crown marked 'Herm. Weissenburger & Cie, Cannstatt', a well-known and respected wartime manufacturer. Overall very good original condition, displaying only light, honest wear consistent with age. A complete, untouched example of a desirable Prussian Jäger Pickelhaube.
