US Post Civil War, GAR Souvenir Spoon, Sterling, 36th Encampment Washington DC 1902

Sold
$50.00

Description

Original period manufacture. An attractive sterling marked spoon measuring 5.5 inches in length. Both sides of the handle show an intricate decoration of patriotic symbols and buildings near Washington D.C. Engraved on the inside the bowl of the spoon is a GAR membership badge. In 1902 the 36th GAR National Encampment was held there. No doubt existing stocks of 'normal' DC souvenir spoons were upgraded with the badge engraving, in order to market them to the GAR attendees.
