Pre WWI Cased U.S. Navy Officer's Fore and Aft Cap

The fore and aft hat is in the 'Chapeau de Bras' style, constructed with a fur felt body bearing gold bullion tape trim and gold bullion fringe. The interior is lined with blue silk and it is embossed 'S.N. Meyer' in the crown. The hat shows light fur loss in areas, primarily on the bottom edges. The interior black silk lining is intact. Both the gold bullion tape and the bullion fringe exhibit age toning. The hat was folded at some point and it shows a faint crease at the center of the hat body. The hat is contained within its japanned tin case, which is also marked 'S.N. Meyer'.
