You are bidding on a SUPERB used example of WW2 Imperial Japanese Army Showa Type 5 Field Combat Backpack, commonly referred to as the 1930-Pattern Backpack. This comes complete with the ORIGINAL internal wood frame!The Showa Type 5 backpack was the standard Japanese Army infantry pack introduced in the early Showa period (April21, 1930, specifically) and remained in service throughout the Second World War. It incorporates a rigid internal wooden frame with canvas body and leather strap system, allowing the soldier to carry heavy loads while maintaining structure and balance. Its design was mearly identical to the 3rd Model from 1912, apart from having fur only on the side that came into contact with the soldier's back; and a simpler construction to the inner frame. Otherwise, it matched the 3rd model almost identically. These packs were issued to frontline troops and support units and are a key component of original Japanese field equipment.Made of canvas, leather, wood, and steel, this example is in VERY NICE condition. The internal wooden frame is present and intact..and all straps are original and complete, including the shoulder straps, with no missing components. The leather remains solid throughout, showing minor dryness in places but no cracking or structural weakness. The canvas body shows light service wear consistent with age, with no significant damage or repairs noted. Stitching is intact and hardware is present. Fur is worn in some areas, but that is common, due to the age. The manufacture label/stamp also remains on the inside flap. Overall this is a well-preserved and increasingly scarce example of an original Japanese Army Showa Type 5 Backpack…PERFECT for any collection or display!
