Description

You are bidding on an AMAZING example of a veteran acquired WW2 Imperial Japanese Navy Special Landing Forces (SNLF) Canteen! Comes complete with the original cloth cover, straps, bakelite cup, and the cap retaining chain. This is the standard Japanese water canteen known as the suito, as used by Imperial Japanese Navy ground forces including Special Naval Landing Forces during the Second World War. These were intended for field carry and are typically encountered with a cloth cover, suspension straps, and a bakelite drinking cup. Both officers and enlisted men carried the same type, and Kanji numbers and names are sometimes found written on the outer canvas covers.Issued to troops of the Imperial Japanese Navy Landing Force, this canteen is in VERY NICE condition for its age. There is no corrosion or damage, and is marked with Kanji characters on both sides. There is very little wear, and the colors are still bright! It still retains the original cap; retaining chain; and original strap! The cloth cover is intact with no tears and no fraying, and the straps are solid with no damage. The canteen has not been removed from the cover to avoid disturbing the original tie configuration, but no dents are visible through the cover. Faint Japanese ink markings are present on the cover, including one side with a larger diamond border around the marking, consistent with a unit or depot marking. A RARE item, it would make a SUPERB addition to any collection or display!
