Description
British WWII Nautical Ensign Flag-A flag like this would be flown on small vessels and is called a 'Red Ensign' or 'Red Duster'.It features a red field with the Union Jack in the corner. These flags have been used by British merchant and passenger ships to denote nationality since 1707. It originated from early 17th-century naval flags and is still worn by vessels in British Crown Dependencies, Overseas Territories, and the Merchant Navy Day. It is a beautiful multipiece construction. The union jack is made of multiple colored pieces of cloth, on a heavy duty red bunting. There are a few small holes throughout so be sure to look closely at the photos. The hoist end is reinforced with white bunting, and there is a name penned onto one side. You can see the name Mabel Mann Jordan, we are unable to find any information on this is the name of a ship or a person. Maybe you can do some research. This flag measures 31 inches (78.74cm) long by 19 inches (48.26cm) wide. It does have some slight damage and fraying, so again, please be sure to look closely but is in overall good shape. This vintage piece is a rare, interesting piece of history!
