Description
You are bidding on a STUNNING used example of a WW2 Imperial Japanese Army Type 92 Field Telephone, as used by the Japanese military throughout the war. This comes COMPLETE with its original leather carrying case and strap! The Type 92 field telephone was the standard Japanese Army telephone used throughout the Second World War for field and fixed communications. These units were employed by infantry, artillery, and support formations for command and signal transmission, using internal hand-cranked generators and wired connections. The Type 92 remained in service for the duration of the war and represents one of the most recognizable and historically important Japanese military communication devices of the period. Itis a beautiful piece of workmanship, with a wooden case with brushed aluminum fittings.Made of a wood, steel, aluminum, and leather, this phone is in AMAZING USED condition! The top cover features two latches, then when depressed, opens to reveal the headset mike, a second headset, and the line connections. Both the earphone and the microphone are together with a cast metal horn extending down for the mouth piece. There is also a 'push to talk' lever along one side of the assembly. Original crank handle is also present. The front panel folds down to reveal a rack for two batteries, the removable lightning arrestor and a spare parts kit. The wrench is present, however the screwdriver is missing (common). Most spare parts also remain in the parts box! The cords are 100% intact and fully flexible, with NO fraying. Morse code button for signaling is on the reverse. The original data plate is still attached (dated November 1942), with additional inspection stamps visible beneath. The crank turns freely and the unit is MECHANICALLY FUNCTIONAL, though it has not been electrically tested and no electrical functionality is guaranteed. There is NO paint chipping observed on the handset or body and NO corrosion noted. The original leather carrying case is present with strap and remains SOFT, with NO cracking, NO repairs, and NO loose stitching observed! Two reproduction batteries are present internally, made to replicate the size and appearance of original Japanese batteries. A VERY SCARCE and highly desirable example of a complete Type 92 Telephone, made especially valuable by the presence of its original leather carrying case, which is rarely encountered. One of the BESTI have seen of its type, it would make a PERFECT item for any collection or display!
