Description
An exceptional and highly desirable original SS Caucasus Volunteer collar tab, produced for non-Germanic volunteers serving in the Waffen-SS during the Second World War. This striking example features the distinctive circular spiral sun-wheel motif flanked by spear-like elements, expertly machine embroidered in grey thread on black wool backing. Constructed in the typical Dachau clothing factory style, the insignia is neatly secured with white stitching to a tightly woven buckram stiffener, displaying all the correct period characteristics in materials and manufacture. Intended for Georgian, Armenian, Azerbaijani, and other Caucasian volunteers, this pattern is one of the collar tab designs attributed to the 30. Waffen-Grenadier-Division der SS. The piece remains in excellent condition, showing only very minor age, and represents a scarce and textbook original example of a rarely encountered foreign volunteer Waffen-SS insignia.
