A very scarce original First World War period 'Northumberland War Hospital pin badge' bronzed ornate bar depicting a shield bearing three Castle turrets on lined ground within title scrolls; the reverse with embossed maker's details 'REID & SONS NEWCASTLE -UPON-TYNE'. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings.Width approx 46mm.Northumberland War Hospital was established in Gosforth, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, utilizing the former Newcastle City Asylum. It served as a major facility for treating wounded soldiers.
