Description
A very interesting British war and Victory medal pair correctly named to 25451 Private John Tallintire Argyle & Sutherland Highlanders.John Tallintire was born in Glasgow around 1895 and when war broke out, he enlisted into the 1/6th (Renfrewshire) Battalion Argyle & Sutherland Highlanders and landed in France during April / May 1915. With this regiment he must have seen action with the 51st (Highland) Division at Ypres and the Somme before being transferred to the 6th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders, probably in the latter part of 1917.There is only so much time I can give to researching a medal or group, for obvious reasons and to be honest this man has proved difficult. He won his Military medal in early 1918, probably during the spring offensive and at the same time he was seriously wounded with a gun shot wound to the chest. His MM is recorded in the London Gazette and Edinburgh Gazette in August 1918. He was soon after discharged dur to wounds and he is also entitled to a silver war badge. On his transfer to the Seaforth's he had a number change to 285104 and his Military medal would have been named with his new number and serving with the Seaforth Highlanders, I assume this is why his Gallantry medal has become separated from the pair. There were only 2 named John Tallintire who won the Military medal, the other was with Durham LI, I believe. This mans medals need to go back to Scotland, where research can be sought in regiment museums and local departments, there is only so much I can find on my laptop in Suffolk.I have also included a decent replica MM with his pair, just to complete his entitlement and his medal come with hard copies of all the documentation I did find, Medal index card Military Medal index card, London Gazette entries, medal rolls and some news paper entries etc.Did he survive long after the war ? did he marry etc, I hope someone will carry on this research to honour this very brave man.Medals are in very good original condition on original ribbons.
