A scarce original Second World War period 'British Ship Adoption Society Merchant Navy home front pin badge'; chromium plated example in the form of a blue enamel ships lifebuoy with 'Merchant Navy' crest to voided centre and inscribed 'B.S.A.S. SHIPS SCHOOL'. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel.Diameter approx 25mm.The British Ship Adoption Society a Maritime Charity was formed in the early part of the Second World War, with a large number of schools taking part in the scheme, amassing comforts for a particular ship and in return the children would receive letters of thanks and news from various ports around the world to which it would sail.
