You are bidding on an EXCELLENT example of a WW2 German Wehrmacht Laufschützer 42, as issued for use with the MG42! This is the standard smooth pattern barrel carrier and remains COMPLETE with its original web canvas carrying strap!The Laufschützer 42 was designed to safely transport spare barrels for the MG42 machine gun in field conditions. As the MG42 was capable of extremely high cyclic rates, barrel changes were frequent, making proper storage and rapid access essential. These carriers were manufactured in pressed steel and finished in factory Dunkelgelb paint, and were issued to machine gun crews throughout the war on all fronts. Original examples retaining strong wartime finish are increasingly difficult to source today.Made pressed steel with original web Canvas Strap, this carrier is in SUPERB used condition! It retains approximately 95% ORIGINAL late war Dunkelgelb paint externally; and approx. 99.9% original paint internally. Outside features only minor areas of wear exposing bare metal. There is NO postwar repainting observed, and features a stenciled '2' on the top, as well as a hand-painted barrel serial number on the side. The smooth body is free of dents, cracks, or repairs. The latch closure is 100% FUNCTIONAL and locks securely. The interior is exceptionally clean with NO corrosion present. Strap is COMPLETE and solid with no structural damage noted. No visible maker codes or inspection stamps are present, which is common for examples of this type and period. A SUPERB and increasingly RARE original example of the a barrel carrier in outstanding condition, ideal for display or to complete an original accessory set!
