Japanese Wakizashi in Leather Combat Cover for Tank or Aviation Officers

Available
$1400.00 β€”

Description

The wakizashi short sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 29 inches, with a blade length of approximately 21-1/4 inches. Wakizashi mounted for armor or aviation officers. The blade exhibits minor signs of age, but it is generally very clean and bright, while also displaying a visible temper line. The blade is secured with a decorated habaki collar at the top of the blade. The tang has two mounting holes and it is unsigned. The grip is covered in toned sharkskin, with some chips and loss of material, and it is tightly wrapped in the traditional manner with black fabric. Beneath the fabric on each side of the grip are figural menuki. The tsuba guard is solid iron with a pierced cherry blossom design. The scabbard is black lacquered wood within a black leather combat cover. There is a snap on the leather at the throat which would have snapped to a tongue fed through the tsuba but is now gone. Overall the sword is in excellent condition. We photographed the sword with the retaining peg removed and it will be replaced when we ship it.
