Description
You are bidding on a VERY RARE example of an original WW2 German Wehrmacht Cardboard Vehicle Oil Bottle (Öldose)! Finished in factory-applied red paint and retaining a period steel cap, this was used in most vehicles, including the Kubelwagen, Schwimmwagen, Sd.Kfz. 251, and others!Cardboard oil bottles were introduced as a material-saving measure during the later years of WW2, replacing earlier aluminum examples in an effort to conserve strategic metals. These lightweight oil containers were carried in a wide range of Wehrmacht vehicles, including armored vehicles, trucks, staff cars, and Sd.Kfz. halftracks, and were used for general lubrication and field maintenance. Typically marked with black ink factory stamps indicating content and manufacturer, these markings were often prone to fading from handling and exposure.Made entirely of pressed and rolled cardboard, this example retains approximately 95% of its ORIGINAL factory paint and finish! The black ink factory markings have largely worn away from age and handling, which is common for examples of this type. The body remains SOLID with NO dents, NO crushing, and NO structural damage observed! The vertical seam is intact and tight. The cardboard base remains secure and undamaged. The interior liner appears intact. The steel cap present is a period cap…but it is not the original to this bottle (it completes the display nicely, however). There are NO soft spots and NO signs of moisture damage. A SUPERB and highly DISPLAYABLE example of a late-war Wehrmacht vehicle accessory in outstanding original condition!
