Description

You are bidding on a SUPERB used example of WW2 German Wehrmacht StuK 40 / KwK 37 Traverse and Firing Mechanism! This was SPECIFIC to both the short and long-barreled 7.5cm Cannon installations fitted to the SturmgeschΓΌtz III (StuG III) assault gun…as well as the Sd.kfz 251/9!The SturmgeschΓΌtz III (StuG III) was an assault gun produced by Germany during World War II. It was the most-produced German fully tracked armoured fighting vehicle, and second-most produced German armored combat vehicle of any type after the Sd.Kfz. 251 half-track. It was built on a slightly modified Panzer III chassis, replacing the turret with an armored, fixed superstructure mounting a more powerful gun. Initially intended as a mobile assault gun for direct-fire support for infantry, the StuG III was continually modified, and much like the later Jagdpanzer vehicles, was employed as a tank destroyer.Made of steel and cast aluminum, this Traverse Assembly retains approximately 90% ORIGINAL wartime paint with only surface staining from long-term storage! It remains mechanically SOUND with NO structural corrosion present. The elevation handle and internal gearing rotate EXTREMELY SMOOTHLY and correctly as intended. The original firing trigger mechanism is present but currently stiff from age and would need to be freed up completely with proper lubrication for functionality. The original electrical wiring remains intact, and the indicator light box assembly is still present with its wiring, though the protective cover is slightly bent. The original mounting base and bolt pattern remain intact, confirming this unit was unbolted rather than cut from a larger assembly. There are NO visible part numbers or markings observed. As I was referencing this assembly when I was restoring my Sd.Kfz. 251/9, four rivets were removed that retained the cover plate on the wheel. At present the cover plate is not attached (easy to attach again). This is a TRUE BARN FIND example with no postwar modification! I have shown its location in the last images. A VERY RARE and highly desirable original armored fighting vehicle component, suitable for advanced restoration, museum display, or serious armored vehicle collections!
