Description
Original Allied Greek-language propaganda leaflet, dated 7 April 1944, dropped over occupied Greece by the R.A.F. and the U.S. Army Air Forces. This rare publication, titled 'Η ΕΠΙΘΕΣΙΣ' ('The Attack'), formed part of the psychological warfare campaign aimed at the Greek population during the German occupation. The leaflet contains various news reports and war updates highlighting Allied military successes. It mentions heavy bombing of strategic targets in Bucharest, Budapest and Sofia, as well as the advance of the Red Army in Romania and around Odessa. It also includes statements by President Roosevelt on behalf of the United Nations and reports on political developments within the Greek government in exile. In addition, the publication provides information about Allied air operations, German losses, and a schedule of Greek-language radio broadcasts from London encouraging the population to listen to Allied news. The content was clearly intended to boost morale, strengthen confidence in an Allied victory, and undermine German authority.A historical and rare 1944 document, highly interesting for collectors of Second World War propaganda, air-dropped leaflets and the occupation history of Greece.Article number: 18392
