Description
A very attractive example of the DRL Sports Badge in Gold (Deutsches Reichsabzeichen für Leibesübungen in Gold). Originally introduced as the DRA medal shortly after the 1913 Olympic Games to promote physical training among the German population, the badge was redesigned in 1933 when the DRA was replaced by the DRL, while retaining the same basic design. This is a fine 'Buntmetall' (non-ferrous metal) example that still retains nearly all of its original golden finish, showing only light wear consistent with age. The details of the wreath and central device remain sharp and well defined. The reverse is clearly maker marked 'Wernstein, Jena' and additionally stamped 'D.R.G.M. 35269', indicating a registered design. The pin and catch are complete and fully functional. A very nice original example in very good condition — an excellent addition to any Third Reich awards or sports badge collection.
