Postcard of Knights Cross Winner Waffen SS Obersturmbannführer August Dieckmann-On 23 April 1942, Dieckmann was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross for actions commanding the 1st Battalion of the SS Regiment 'Germania' during the battle of Rostov, one of the first Russian campaigns, near the Don River. On 16 April 1943, Dieckmann was given command of the SS Panzergrenadier Regiment 'Westland' in the SS Panzergrenadier Division 'Wiking'.On the same day, he received the Oak Leaves to the Knight's Cross.On 20 April 1943, Dieckmann was appointed commander of the regiment.On 21 June 1943, he was promoted to SS-Obersturmbannführer.On 10 October 1943, Dieckmann was awarded the Swords to the Oak Leaves of the Knight's Cross.On the same day, he was killed in action during the bridgehead fighting on the middle Dnieper River on what the Germans called 'Foxtail Island'. He was buried in Korsun. On 15 May 1944, Dieckmann was posthumously promoted to SS-Standartenführer, effective 1 October 1943. This postcard is in excellent condition. This postcard measures 5 ½ inches tall (13.97cm) and 3 ½ inches (8.89cm) wide. The reverse of this postcard is setup in traditional postcard style, with the spot for a note, and the address. It is pre-stamped with a red Grossdeutsches Reich stamp. This also has the Hoffmanstudios nomenclature. Great display item.
