German WWII Signed Photo of Knights Cross Winner Gerhard Krems- Krems was a highly decorated German Luftwaffe bomber pilot during World War II and a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. As an Oberleutnant in 2./Kampfgeschwader 27 'Boelcke,' he earned the award on May 25, 1942, for his success in over 167 combat missions. He served in the 2nd Staffel of Kampfgeschwader 27 'Boelcke,' flying the Heinkel He 111, and had 39 missions during the Battle of Britian, as well as 211 missions on the Eastern Front (Russia). He is credited with destroying 179 vehicles, 5 locomotives, 48 aircraft on the ground, and a 500-ton tugboat, among other targets. Krems survived the war and passed away on February 12, 2017, at the age of 96. This singed letter and photo is dated 1986.This photos measures approx. 5 ½ inches (13.97cm) tall and 3 ½ inches (8.89cm) wide. The photo is signed in blue ink at the bottom of the photo. The letter is very interesting, he states he has nothing left from that time, except his honor cup. The Russians took everything else, but he kept his cup. He died at the age of 96 in 2017. This is an excellent photo.
