German WWII Signed Pencil Drawing of Knights Cross Winner Horst Niemack-Horst Niemack was a highly decorated German Generalmajor during World War II, receiving the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords. Known for his leadership in reconnaissance units and commanding the Panzer Lehr Division from January 1945, he was a prominent, recognized commander who later served as chairman of the Association of Knight's Cross Recipients. Niemack started as a Rittmeister (cavalry captain) leading a reconnaissance unit (Aufklärungs-Abteilung 5), earning the Knight's Cross on August 10, 1941, for actions in the French campaign. He took command of the elite Panzer Lehr Division on January 10, 1945, succeeding General Fritz Bayerlein. He survived the war and went on to serve as chairman of the Association of Knight's Cross Recipients (AKCR) starting in 1956 and was awarded the Great Cross of Merit from the Federal Republic of Germany. He passed away at the age of 83 in April of 1992. This pencil drawing is signed by Niemack in black across the chest. There is also a note and signature on the reverse. This picture measures 5 ¾ inches (14.60cm) tall and approx. 4 inches (10.16 cm) wide. It is in excellent condition and would make the start of a fun research project.
