German WWII Signed Photo of Knights Cross Winner Alfred Philippi- Alfred Philippi was born in August 1903. He was a GermanGeneralmajorin the Wehrmacht during World War II, and won his Knight's Cross on May 14, 1944, while commanding Grenadier-Regiment 535, when he was recognized for exceptional leadership and bravery. He was mentioned in the Wehrmacht report on April 1, 1944, for his bravery. He was involved in Operation Northwind, which was the last German decisive battle launched to support Germany against the allies in the Ardennes forest, and the battle of the bulge. This as we know, didn't end well for the Germans. He passed away at the age of 90 in Koblenz Germany. This postcard shows Philippi with is wound badge, iron cross and knights cross. In 1944 he would have been aged 41. This card has his signature written on the bottom in blue. There is also a signature on the reverse. There are some pencil markings on the reverse as well. This photo measures 5 inches (12.7cm) tall by 3 inches (7.62 cm) wide.It is in very good condition.
