Description
Very nice and well-preserved Heer Waffenrock with red piping for Artillerie / Beobachtungs-Abteilung 34, complete with all of its original insignia. The tunic retains its beautifully embroidered shoulder boards with red underlay and the number '34', showing the rank of Unteroffizier. The Waffenrock is in very good condition overall, free from major damage and only showing a few small moth nips consistent with age. On the left breast are multiple award loops, indicating that the original owner was decorated and wore several medals. Inside, the tunic is clearly stamped with a unit acceptance mark from Beobachtungs-Abteilung 34, confirming regimental attribution.Beobachtungs-Abteilung 34 was formed on 12 October 1937 in Lachen-Speyerdorf (Wehrkreis XII) and from 1938 was stationed in Koblenz. Initially subordinated to the 34. Infanterie-Division, the unit later became Heerestruppe and saw extensive wartime service. During Operation Barbarossa it was deployed in southern Russia, was reorganised as a leichte Beobachtungs-Abteilung (mot.) in April 1942, and in November 1942 received a balloon detachment from Ballon-Batterie 103, highlighting its specialised artillery observation and balloon reconnaissance role. In May 1944 the unit fought on the Crimea near Sevastopol, in December 1944 it was deployed with the 6. Panzerarmee in the Ardennes Offensive, and in 1945 saw action near Aachen. A highly attractive and historically strong artillery Waffenrock to a very interesting and operationally active observation unit with both Eastern Front and Ardennes campaign history.
