Description
An outstanding and highly characterful example of theLuftwaffe Paratrooper Badge (Fallschirmschützen Abzeichen)bySteinhauer & LückofLüdenscheid, representing a typical late-war S&L production. The badge features a zinc-constructed wreath with a riveted cupal eagle and a soldered-on set-up, exactly as encountered on original period pieces. This particular example tells a remarkable story: the pin and catch were broken during wartime service — a well-documented occurrence among front-line Fallschirmjäger — after which the badge was sewn directly onto the uniform. The original hinge base and remnants of the needle are still present, and traces of thread remain clearly visible at both the top and bottom. Notably, fabric remnants are still preserved over the catch area, including a visible piece of wool from the Luftwaffe flight blouse, confirming that the badge was removed directly from a worn uniform jacket. The piece displays a beautiful, honest patina consistent with field wear and retains an eagle in excellent condition with a striking, bright swastika. One of the two rivets securing the eagle was broken and was carefully stabilized with adhesive by the American veteran who brought the badge home after the war. Despite this minor post-war repair, the badge remains an exceptional and authentic combat-worn example with undeniable character — a rare opportunity to acquire a true front-line piece with tangible history.
