Description
You are bidding on a VERY NICE example of a WW2 U.S. Army .30-06 Springfield Trench Art Nail File, constructed from a Lake City 1942 cartridge. This is a period field-made item created from standard U.S. service ammunition and housed in a handwoven bamboo sheath.During the Pacific Theater campaigns of World War II, U.S. servicemen frequently converted expended ammunition into personal tools and keepsakes. Common trench art items included letter openers, bracelets, rings, and grooming implements. Lake City Ordnance Plant production from 1942 was widely issued to U.S. forces operating in the Pacific, and bamboo souvenir craftsmanship was commonly produced in-theater or obtained locally as protective coverings or keepsake casesMade of Brass, Steel, and Bamboo, this example is in EXCELLENT used condition! Completely INERT, the .30-06 cartridge case with a struck primer and has an empty interior. The original 1942 Lake City marked cartridge (LC 42) has been pulled and the projectile core hand-worked into a functional nail file with clearly visible hand-cut teeth. The file is fixed in place and functions properly. The brass case shows honest age and patina consistent with period use. The included handwoven bamboo sheath displays age, patina, minor cracking, and some loose stitching but no repairs. This is a genuine WWII Pacific Theater style trench art piece made from standard U.S. Army .30-06 service ammunition. PERFECT for any collection or display!
