Description

Here on offer is a really impressive antique Model P. 435 'Sport' knife with nickel silver grip and locking clip point blade by Joseph Rodgers & Sons, of Sheffield England, circa 1880.Highly collectible today, the J. Rodgers knives are among the most respected and sought after, particularly their early and innovative folding knives. The Model P. 435 'Sport' knife is a beautifully made traditional folding sport knife, with a unique and slender grip of nickel silver scales. The knife has a fine and slender 4.25' clip point blade of polished carbon steel. It does have some minor areas of staining to the finish, that may polish out.On one side of the ricasso it is stamped with the Jospeh Rodgers makers mark of the Star and Maltese cross stamp and the name:JOSEPTHRODGERSThe Star and Malta cross marks was originally that of Benjamin Rich. Rogers registered the same mark in 1764.On the other side the ricasso is stamped with:SHEFFIELDENGLANDThe grip scales are made of polished nickel silver and are held in place by four steel rivets against the steel back spring.Half way along the back spring is a mid-lock that stands proud and rounded, sitting comfortably in the hand and allowing easy closure. The blade pulls open easily and locks firmly in place with no wobble. Then to close the blade, you just push down on the semi-circular mid-lock latch, which releases the catch and it can be folded closed. These knives are very rare and seldom come on the market. The last one I saw for sale, actually sold for $350, about £260.The blade measures 4.25' (10.8cm) long with a cutting edge of 3.9' (9.8cm) and the knife itself is a total of 9.25' (23.5cm) long when open.It weighs 92g.Please see my pictures for the details of the condition, which complement this description. Please see my TERMS OF BUSINESS regarding Deliver Charges and Insurance regarding additional insurance cover, should you require it, BEFORE the item is dispatched. The responsibility lies with the customer to check with your Customs restrictions that this item can be imported into your country.
