German WWII 2ndModel Luftwaffe Fallschirmjäger Gravity Knife by SMF-Introduced in 1943 to allow for field maintenance and blade replacement, this is the 2ndmodel known as a takedown knife. The 1st Model was a fixed-frame assembly, but the later 2nd Model allows the user to remove the top fitting and open the body to service the internal gravity mechanism. This is a handsome knife! This 2ndmodel Luftwaffe takedown has fittings that are in very good shape. There is scuffing and dings in certain spots. It looks as though this knife was used to hammer in a nail at one point, but this damage is very slight. The wooden grip plates are in very good shape. The button that releases the cap to the inner spring works perfectly and is marked on the underside with 746/2. The blade is nicely marked for SMF with the SMF logo. You can still see the factory cross graining.The spike is in place, with the number 5 Luftamt. This is a very popular paratrooper knife.
