Description
Original porcelainJulteller(Julfest plate) produced by the renowned Meissen manufactory during the Third Reich period. These Julfest plates were created in connection with the National Socialist reinterpretation of the traditional Germanic midwinter celebration 'Julfest,' which was promoted as a cultural alternative to the Christian Christmas tradition. The plate features a finely executed underglaze blue woodland scene with a group of figures beneath tall fir trees, symbolising community and ancestral tradition. At the bottom of the composition appears a stylised Germanic sun wheel (Sonnenrad), a motif associated with the Jul celebration and the rebirth of the sun at midwinter. Executed in classic Meissen underglaze blue on white porcelain. The reverse bears the correct blue crossed swords mark of the Meissen manufactory and the impressed model number 'N 117.' The original hanging device is still present. Diameter approximately 25.5 cm. Condition is very good, with only minor age-related wear. No cracks or repairs observed. A scarce and highly displayable example of a period Meissen Julteller.
