Description

You are bidding on a VERY NICE example of an original pre-war WW2 German Kochgeschirr (Mess Kit)! Dated 1936 and bearing a RARE RZM marking, this classic two-piece field mess kit consists of the main cooking pot and the fitted lid which also served as a small pan or eating bowl. Mess kits of this type were standard personal field equipment used by German troops and paramilitary organizations for cooking, heating rations, and general mess use in the field. The Kochgeschirr pattern introduced prior to the First World War remained one of the most practical and widely used pieces of German field equipment well into the Second World War period. Its simple nesting design allowed soldiers to cook meals, heat rations, and carry personal utensils in a compact and durable container. Early pre-war examples are sometimes encountered with RZM markings, indicating procurement through the Reichszeugmeisterei supply system used by SS, NSDAP, and affiliated organizations and paramilitary formations during the early years of the war.Made ofaluminum, this example retains its original two-piece configuration consisting of the main pot and matching lid with folding steel handle. The lid is clearly stamped with anRZMmarking inside a circle with the designation 'FA 4/36' beneath, indicating manufacture in1936. The interior retains the original aluminum finish and the interior retaining lip for the storage of a folding utensil set is clearly present. The lid retains approximately 95% original black paint while the body retains only small traces of its original black finish with most of the surface now showing the natural aluminum from field wear. The folding steel handle retains approximately 90% original black paint and remains fully intact and functional, showing only light surface oxidation where the paint has worn. The mess kit shows normal wear including scattered scratches and a few minor dents consistent with use, but there are no cracks, no repairs, and the hinge area remains solid. The lid fits tightly to the body with no looseness and the markings remain extremely clear and easy to read. The exterior of the lid is named 'W. Fleck,' neatly etched into the surface, adding a personal soldier identification to the piece. Overall this is a VERY NICE pre-war 1936 RZM marked example, PERFECT for any collection or display!
