Description
You are bidding on a VERY NICE example of an original WW1 Imperial Prussian Army M1910 Kochgeschirr (Mess Kit). This classic two-piece field mess kit consists of the main cooking pot and the fitted lid which also served as a small pan or eating bowl. These were standard personal field equipment issued to German soldiers and were used for cooking, heating rations, and general mess use in the field,The M1910 Kochgeschirr was introduced by the Imperial German Army prior to the First World War and remained standard issue throughout the war. The design proved extremely practical, consisting of a compact nesting cooking pot with a folding handle and a tight fitting lid that doubled as a secondary cooking vessel. German soldiers commonly carried their folding eating utensils stored inside the mess kit, with the small interior lip designed specifically to retain the spoon and fork set during transport.Made of steel, this example retains its original two-piece configuration consisting of the main pot and matching lid. The lid is clearly stamped 'WURTT. METALL FABRIK' with a date stamp of '15' indicating manufacture in 1915, while the body of the mess kit is stamped 'WMF 15,' confirming MATCHING manufacturer and date. The mess kit retains its ORIGINAL folding steel handle which remains intact and fully functional. The original green field paint is still present with approximately 80%remaining on the lid and approximately 10% remaining on the body. The piece shows normal field wear including light scratching, minor dents consistent with service use, light storage oxidation, and some staining. Though not shown in the pics, this one does have the internal lip, designed to store the folding spoon/fork. There are no repairs or damage that I can see. A VERY NICE item, PERFECT for any collection or display!
