Description
Original German M40 steel combat helmet manufactured by Quist (Q) in size 64, representing a typical late-war example produced during the later years of the Second World War. Quist was among the last helmet manufacturers to continue producing the M40 pattern before the transition to the simplified M42 helmet, making late-war Quist M40 helmets a recognizable subtype for collectors. The helmet retains its original field-grey factory paint, showing honest service wear and natural aging to the surface. This example is a classic no-decal configuration, which became increasingly common during the later stages of the war as production processes were simplified. The shell is maker marked Q64 in the rear skirt; the lot number is present but unfortunately no longer clearly legible.Inside, the helmet is complete with its original liner with a size 56 leather liner, mounted on a 1943 dated liner band. The pig-skin leather liner remains in very good condition with only minimal wear and retains its natural flexibility. The original drawstring is still present and intact. The split pins remain untouched and straight, confirming the helmet has not been tampered with or disassembled.Overall this is a nice honest and untouched late-war M40 helmet, showing typical service wear but remaining structurally sound and complete. A solid and original example suitable for a Heer or Waffen-SS display, representing the practical late-war production of German combat helmets around 1943–1944
