Description
Original German Wehrmacht marching compass (Marschkompaß), manufactured in black Bakelite, a material widely used during the Second World War for military equipment due to its durability and lightweight characteristics. These compasses were standard field navigation instruments used by German soldiers and officers throughout the war.The compass features its original hinged cover with sighting line, allowing accurate directional readings in the field. The dial remains clear and well preserved with easily readable directional markings. The housing is marked 'MK 59683', indicating the manufacturer. The compass still retains its original leather carrying strap, which is also maker marked 'MK' and bears a Waffenamt acceptance stamp, confirming official German military inspection and acceptance. The piece is fitted with its original brass attachment ring and leather strap for securing the compass to field equipment. No leather case is present with this example. The Bakelite body remains in very good condition with normal signs of age and use, while the strap shows honest wear but remains solid.A nice original and untouched example of a standard Wehrmacht Bakelite Marschkompaß, complete with its original maker-marked and Waffenamt-inspected strap.
