Signed Japanese Wakizashi in Leather Combat Cover for Tank or Aviation Officers

The wakizashi short sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 21 inches, with a blade length of approximately 12 inches. The Wakizashi is mounted for armor or aviation officers. The blade exhibits minor signs of age, but it is generally very clean and bright, while also displaying a visible temper line. The blade is secured with an incised habaki collar at the top of the blade. The tang has a single mounting hole and it is signed 'Kanemoto'. The grip is covered in toned sharkskin, and it is tightly wrapped in the traditional manner with golden brown fabric. Beneath the fabric on each side of the grip are figural menuki which appears to be that of a traditional Japanese folded iron fan. The tsuba guard is solid with a raised cherry blossom design. The scabbard is wood within an olive green leather combat cover. There is a snap on closure on a strap at the base of the grip. A brown fabric sword tassel remains ties to the ring at the top of the grip. Overall the sword is in excellent condition. We photographed the sword with the retaining peg removed and it will be replaced when we ship it.
