- Korea Medal 1950-53. 1st issue (2758006 Sjt. J. S. Young. B.W.)- United Nations: Service Medal with 'Korea' bar- General Service Medal 1962-2007. With clasp 'Borneo' (27658006 Sgt. J. G.Young. RAPC.)Note the Korea Medal with middle forename initial 'S' (sic) and the GSM medal with an extra digit (sic). The medals otherwise exactly as issued and never returned for correctionThe recipients unique Army Number is from the block allocated to the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) in 1920, and awarded sequentially to all new enlistees to the Black Watch (Regulars & Territorials'). this indicating that the recipient had enlisted in the British Army and been posted to a battalion of the Black Watch, sometime prior to 1942Medals Verification: None of the medal rolls for any of the recipients medals are accessible in the public domain (as of writing), and WW2 British Army medal index cards are a notoriously incomplete records series. With clasp 'Borneo' (27658006 Sgt. J.G. Young. RAPC.)John Gilbert Young, son of Private John Young, 3rd Battalion Royal Scots & Robina Young (nee Goldie), was a native of, Canonmills, Edinburgh, Scotland, where he was born, 16 April 1916. At the time of his birth, his father is shown as a serving 'Private' with the 3rd Battalion Royal Scots. After service in the Second World War, and the Korean War, during which conflicts John served with the Black Watch, he is known to have transferred to the Royal Army Pay Corps circa 1956. RAPC records (Regimental Journal) show that he was promoted Corporal, 7 August 1956. He was promoted Sergeant, 7 August 1961, and served overseas in Hong Kong Colony from August 1962. John took his final discharge from the British Army, 25 June 1969. After leaving the British Army, he took up employment as a 'Clerical Officer', and is recorded to have died at The Royal Star and Garter Home at Richmond, near London. At the time of the issuance of the deceased's 'Death Certificate' he was described as a 'Clerical Officer (Retired)' and that prior to his death his usual residence address had been 'Union Jack Club, Sandell Street, Waterloo, London.
