Description

You are bidding on a SUPERB museum quality REPRODUCTION of a WW2 German Luftwaffe Me109 G6 NIGHT FIGHTER Blind Flying Panel! Copied from an ORIGINAL example recovered from Me109 G6 W.N.r 411359, these types of specialized panels were installed in aircraft configured for instrument and night operations and differed from the standard fighter blind panels used in daytime interceptor variants.Night fighter variants of the Messerschmitt Me109 required modified cockpit instrument arrangements to support operations in darkness and poor visibility. The blind flying panel, known in German as the Blindflugtafel, grouped the primary flight instruments together so the pilot could maintain orientation and control solely by reference to instruments when visual references were unavailable. Certain night fighter configurations of the Me 109G series incorporated revised layouts that included additional instruments compared to the standard four-instrument blind flying arrangement typically seen in earlier fighter cockpits This specific one carried the Altimeter, Speedometer, Horizon, Turn & Bank, AFN2, and Compass.Made of aluminyum and produced as a full size museum quality reproduction, this example was copied directly from an ORIGINAL wreck recovered Blind Flying Panel from Messerschmitt Me109G6 W. Nr. 411359! The original panel was recovered from the crash site by aviation author and researcher Harold Vogt, and discussed at length in Waffen Arsenal, Band 18, as well as his larger format book covering all variants. This was created directly from the original surviving panel remains, which I have shown in the 2nd image in this listing. Unlike the more common four instrument fighter configuration, this night fighter panel features openings for six instruments reflecting the modified layout used in this particular aircraft. The panel is finished in satin black just like the original and includes the correct instrument openings but does not include any instruments. Three identical reproductions were produced and all examples are unused, with only minor handling marks from storage that do not detract from the overall appearance. Overall this is a VERY NICE museum quality reproduction of a rare and unusual Luftwaffe night fighter blind flying panel copied directly from an original Me109 G6 Night Fighter! Also included are a few scans from Waffen Arsenal, Band 18 to go along with panel, as well as a brief English translation.Would make a PERFECT additionto any collection, display, or restoration project!*** NOTE ***The original Blind Flying Panel shown in the 2nd image is NOT part of this auction. It is shown for reference purposes only!
