Original sleeve insignia of the National People's Army (NVA) of the German Democratic Republic (DDR).This emblem belongs to the Fähnrich rank group and was worn by personnel with less than ten years of service.The shield shaped insignia features the national emblem of the DDR with hammer and compass surrounded by a wreath of grain.The badge is executed on a field grey background with silver colored service stripes at the top indicating length of service.Within the NVA the rank of Fähnrich formed a separate specialist rank group positioned between non-commissioned officers and commissioned officers.Personnel holding this rank often fulfilled technical, administrative or specialist roles within the East German armed forces.The insignia was worn on the sleeve of the uniform and formed part of the distinctive NVA rank system during the Cold War.Article number: 18611
