Description
You are bidding on a VERY NICE used example of a WW2 German Wehrmacht Gebirgsjaeger Canvas Combat Rucksack / Backpack, as used by German military personnel throughout the war!The M34 and M39 Tornister 'Pony Fur' Backpack (based on the earlier Prussian Back Pack), was introduced in November 1934.As they became too expensive and far too time consuming to produce, a more economical and less expensive canvas type rucksack was introduced.During the second world war, the German army fielded nine mountain divisions. These were, effectively, specially trained and equipped infantry divisions. Due to the nature of the terrain, and the usually colder climates that they were expected to serve in, special clothing, footwear and equipment were developed specifically for their use, including a distinctive rucksack.Made of heavy Olive Drab Canvas, this rucksack is in NICE used condition! Some slight marks from storage, but nothing that detracts. It features leather straps with both aluminum and steel hardware/buckles. A few marks and wear from use. Some of the leather is a bit frail (see photos), and the strap buckle is missing. Features an RBNr on the reverse. Heavier in construction than the typical Heer model, it would make anEXCELLENT addition to any collection or display!
