Description

You are bidding on an EXTREMELY RARE and 100% original WW2 US Army Aircraft Republic P-47C Razorback 'Thunderbolt' Instrument Panel Data Plate! Recovered from Serial Number 889-xxx, this was a main identifying plate located in the cockpit, and originates from the same aircraft as all the other P-47 C Data Plates I currently have listed. The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt is a World War II-era fighter aircraft produced by the American company Republic Aviation from 1941 through 1945. It was a successful high-altitude fighter, and it also served as the foremost American fighter-bomber in the ground-attack role. Its primary armament was eight .50-caliber machine guns, and it could carry 5-inch rockets or a bomb load of 2,500 lb (1,100 kg). When fully loaded, the P-47 weighed up to 8 tons, making it one of the heaviest fighters of the war.The P-47 was one of the main United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) fighters of World War II. It also served with other Allied air forces, including those of France, the United Kingdom, and the Soviet Union. Mexican and Brazilian squadrons fighting alongside the USAAF also flew the P-47. The armored cockpit was relatively roomy and comfortable and the bubble canopy introduced on the P-47D offered good visibility. Nicknamed the 'Jug' owing to its appearance if stood on its nose, the P-47 was noted for its firepower and its ability to resist battle damage and remain airworthy. A present-day U.S. ground-attack aircraft, the Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II, takes its name from the P-47.Several improvements were incorporated into the Thunderbolt starting with the 172nd production aircraft on September 14, 1942. The resulting P-47C featured a redesigned metal rudder, as the original fabric-covered unit was prone to tail flutter which frequently led to crashes. A revised oxygen system was fitted, as were new SCR-274-N and SCR-515-A radios. The main external difference between the P-47B and C was the upright antenna mast, which replaced the B's forward-swept mast. The P-47C-5-RE, features cockpit heating, as well as a revised radio, instruments, and the antenna mast was replaced by a whip antenna (photographic evidence shows that some C-5-REs and future razorback variants were fitted with either the mast or whip antenna, with no apparent standard). Only 362 built.Made of aluminum, this is an EXTREMELY RARE piece. Originating from the SAME aircraft as all the other plates I have listed, it features 95% original paint, and all markings are very legible. It indicates:FLAP WARNINGDO NOT LOWER FLAPSABOVE M.P.H.BEST SETTING FOR TAKE-OFFDEGREESI have shown the exact location (and type of aircraft this was installed on) in the last image.
