Description
German WWI 1914 Iron Cross 2ndClass-This example has a little bit of salt to it. If this medal could talk, what would it say? The black finish on the iron core is intact, though is light in some spots on the obverse. The silver frame has toned to a nice dark color that complements the black of the finish. There is some slight rusting bleeding onto the silver frame. But, the details are nice and strong. Overall, this is a very good example. This cross retains its original suspension ring, which is maker marked 'MFH' indicating manufacture by the firm of M.Flex & Sohn in Hamburg. This comes with a correct length of original black and white ribbon which is also quite salty. It is intact, but quite age toned. A classic!History: The German 'Iron Cross of 1914' was a military decoration awarded to soldiers during World War I, originally established by King Frederick William III of Prussia in 1813 as a recognition for bravery in battle.
