Description

You are bidding on a STUNNING and VERY RARE example of 100% original WW2 German Luftwaffe Wartungkappe Service Hatch, as recovered from a Messerschmitt Bf110 Heavy Fighter! Part of 9. / ZG 26, this SPECIFIC Service Hatch originates from the well-known, Me110 C-2 W.Nr. 3063!The Messerschmitt Bf110 was the Luftwaffe's twin engine heavy fighter used extensively during the early years of the war, including the campaign in France in 1940. Aircraft coded 3U belonged to Zerstörergeschwader 26, and research identifies W.Nr. 3063 coded 3U+GT as a Bf 110 C-2 of 9./ZG 26, or 9th Staffel, Zerstörergeschwader 26, operating in France during that period. There are many photos of this aircraft online…and Revell even made a 1/48 scale model kit depicting this EXACT aircraft! Service hatches of this type were removable access panels used to allow ground crews access to internal equipment and systems for inspection, maintenance, and repair.Made of aluminum example is in EXCELLENT reic condition! Rectangular in shape, it remains STRUCTURALLY SOLID with all ORIGINAL mounting holes present and no corrosion to the aluminum itself! As expected from a genuine wreck recovered relic, the exterior finish shows paint loss, dirt, oxidation, and surface wear, but the panel itself remains sound. The reverse features clearly visible hand painted and stamped identification numbers, indicating:B.F.110W.N. 3063It also features the number, '3063' stamped TWICE into the aluminum just below the Data Plate. The Date Plate indicates:BF 110 C1110.10-59This EXACT aircraft has been identified asMesserschmitt Bf110 C-2, W.Nr. 3063, coded 3U+GT of 9./ZG 26 (9th Staffel, Zerstörergeschwader 26), that served in France in 1940. This hatch came out of Germany and was almost certainly recovered decades ago (most likely from the crash site in France given the known history of the aircraft and the preserved condition of the aluminum). Period photographs available online show this exact aircraft and clearly show the hatch in its original location on the fuselage, matching both the shape and position of this panel. Measuring approx. 10″ x 10″ in size, I have shown both the exact aircraft; this exact hatch on the aircraft, as well as a modern image to clearly ID the location. Overall this is a VERY NICE and VERY RARE identified Luftwaffe airframe relic from a specifically documented Bf110 of ZG 26 rather than a generic aircraft fragment. A STUNNING aircraft collectible, with SUPERB history, it would make a FANTASTIC addition to any collection or display!
